Case study Bathroom Bills and ACLU

In March 2016, the Governor of South Dakota vetoed a bill prohibiting transgender students from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity, after the ACLU organised for him to meet with a group of transgender students who, he said, “put a human face” on the likely impact of the bill. A number of businesses have also taken action to show their opposition to ‘bathroom bills’ in other states.
