The nation-state and globalization are pivotal concepts in global politics, showcasing a significant tension that has defined debates in international relations throughout the 20th Century. States are perceived as sovereign entities with complete authority over their citizens and subjects. 

Globalization denotes the increasing interconnectedness and interdependence of the world, where events and ideas can transcend borders and have far-reaching impacts. This interconnectedness also poses a potential threat to a state's sovereignty.
